Naomi and her family's story

BCM Georgia and The Boyce L. Ansley School created a meaningful collaborative partnership to provide a pathway for lasting stability for Naomi, her two children in elementary school, and her infant child was created between BCM Georgia and The Boyce L. Ansley School. Together, the organizations are ensuring that families like Naomi’s have the resources and tools they need to rebuild their lives.

Expertise from both the Ansley School and BCM is securing a solid education along with practical housing support and life and financial education. The Ansley School’s client family, headed by Naomi, is receiving tenant-based rental assistance paired with comprehensive wraparound case management support through BCM. For families like Naomi, this is the foundation they need to rebuild their lives.

Naomi and her family’s story illustrates the life-changing impact of this partnering approach. As a hardworking single mother of two in Atlanta, Naomi had always done her best to provide for her children while working as a customer service representative. Life’s unexpected challenges—an unexpected medical expense for her youngest child’s chronic bronchitis, rising rents, and the aftermath of a previous layoff—left Naomi’s family without stable housing. For months, they moved between crowded relatives’ homes and temporary shelters. School attendance became sporadic, and the daily stress left little room for her elementary aged children to simply be kids. Homework was done on borrowed tables, and bedtime often brought anxiety instead of peace.

The Boyce L. Ansley School is Atlanta’s only tuition-free private school dedicated exclusively to children who have experienced or are currently experiencing homelessness. The school serves the children of Atlanta families whose education has been disrupted by shelter stays, evictions, or frequent moves. It provides a nurturing, high-quality academic environment where every child can focus on learning without the constant worry of housing instability. The Ansley School’s work supports the ideal that children’s education thrives best when they have a safe, consistent place to call home, and that is exactly what this partnership delivers.

“At The Ansley School, each family receives intensive case management to help families stay on track with their Family Success Plans. When families secure stable housing, everything changes; children can remain in school consistently, focus on learning, and grow in the safety and stability every child deserves. Partnering with BCM to work with Naomi and her family is moving them toward lasting stability, opportunity, and hope.” — Ray James, Head of School, Boyce L. Ansley School

BCM brings the critical housing stability and financial education piece to the table. Its three programs are designed specifically for low-income working families. BCM’s program that works with Naomi functions as tenant-based rental assistance with robust wraparound support. Over the course of up to 12 months, eligible families receive subsidized housing and utility support, and families begin rebuilding their lives in a safe housing environment without worrying about the threat of eviction. This assistance is paired with dedicated case management that includes weekly case management support and check-ins, access to child care, educational scholarship opportunities for Naomi, and more. BCM’s goal is clear: help families move from survival mode to stability, so parents can focus on employment and children can thrive in school. This two-generation approach ensures that both parents and children benefit, creating ripple effects that can strengthen families for years to come.

“BCM’s programs are vital to the Atlanta community as a whole because they create opportunities for multiple generations to benefit and experience change. When we stabilize a family’s housing and support both parents and children through wraparound services, we don’t just help one household today—we plant seeds of stability, education, and opportunity that can break cycles of poverty and uplift grandchildren and beyond.”  - Greg Cole, President and CEO of BCM Georgia

With stable housing secured through BCM, life at home is transforming. Family dinners are becoming regular, and Naomi’s children could focus fully on their studies and just be kids. Naomi continues to gain confidence as she is seeing tangible steps toward her financial independence. What once felt like an endless cycle of uncertainty has become a story of resilience, partnership, and forward momentum.

The partnership between Boyce L. Ansley School and BCM demonstrates how education and housing stability can work hand in hand to break cycles of poverty. Ansley provides the academic excellence and nurturing environment that children from homeless or housing-insecure backgrounds need to succeed. BCM contributes the tenant-based rental assistance and intensive case management that allow families to establish stable housing. Together, they serve Atlanta’s working families—parents who are employed yet still struggle with the high cost of housing, and children whose potential was once limited by instability but now has room to flourish.

By working together, both can ensure that children can remain in school, parents can focus on long-term goals, and families can move toward independence with dignity and hope—benefits that extend across multiple generations.

Stories like Naomi’s remind us that when education meets practical housing support, real transformation happens. As more families benefit from this partnership, the impact ripples outward, strengthening neighborhoods and building a brighter future for Atlanta’s children and their families.
